1) EPIC EXPERIENCES

THE RANDS PARTY. If I’m in Cape Town, South Africa on a Sunday, you can find me at The Rands Party. This is hands-down the best party in the city and it’s located in the heart of Khayelitsha township. If you arrive early you can eat some of the city’s best “Braai” while the DJ spins in the afternoon. But, be sure to stay into the night because the party doesn’t turn up until after dark. It’s a place to dance, have fun, meet amazing people, and melt into some amazing Amapiano music. You can follow The Rands Party on Instagram here.

2) TRAVEL GEAR I USE

BRIGGS AND RILEY ESSENTIAL CARRY-ON SPINNER. I travel the world full time with carry-on luggage only, and this is now the only suitcase I will use. It is made out of Ballistic Nylon, has Aircraft-Grade Aluminum Handles, a Hybrid Fiberglass Frame, and…has a Lifetime Warranty! Unlike my old suitcases that would break once a year, this is amazingly rugged and durable, and if it ever does have a problem….they fix it under the lifetime warranty. So, paying more for the suitcase up front has netted out to be one of the best travel investments I’ve made over the last decade. Check out my Briggs and Riley carry-on suitcase and all of my travel gear.

3) WHAT TO WATCH

ROAMERS. In 2019, award-winning German film director Lena Leonhardt reached out to me and invited me to be a featured protagonist in the first ever studio-backed documentary film about the digital nomad lifestyle that she was directing. I suggested they come to West Africa to film me in Senegal, and that they also feature my homegirl Agnes Nyamwange in the film (a Kenyan digital nomad who was traveling with me). They agreed, and I interviewed Agnes for The Maverick Show in Dakar, Senegal while the cameras were on us! The film is available to stream but you can watch the trailer here.

Did you Listen to Last Week’s Episode of
The Maverick Show?

Last week I interviewed Stephanie Zito, who has been traveling the world for 3 decades and living in countries ranging from Sierra Leone to Sudan. On this episode she reflected on why travel will not help you find yourself, why you can only experience a place in the present moment, what it means to be an ethical traveler, why you should always talk to your taxi driver, why she marks major life changes with epic pilgrimages, how she thinks about the concept of “home”, and how her lifestyle choices have evolved through different seasons of life. You can stream the episode on all podcast platforms or directly on The Maverick Show website.
