1) WORK-TRAVEL PROGRAMS

REMOTE YEAR is the work-travel program I patronize the most. The best year of my life was when I participated in the 12-month Remote Year program and traveled the world with a community of other remote professionals back in 2016. We lived in a different city each month, for 12 months, on 4 continent. We started out as strangers but quickly became family as we saw the world together, supported each other through the ups and downs of life, and had epic adventures together. In 2022 I participated in Remote Year’s 4-month all-Africa trip, which was also incredible. Learn more about my experiences, see pics from my trips, and get a $100 Credit towards your first Remote Year program.

2) TRAVEL GEAR I USE

A DRY BAG folds flat and takes up almost no space in my luggage, yet it’s a multi-purpose travel asset. I often use it as my day-pack for carrying my laptop and headphones to and from the workspace or coffeeshop, especially if I’m in a rainy season somewhere. It has a key security function too because it does not look like a laptop bag, so nobody can tell I’m carrying valuables inside. It also comes in super handy for boat trips and water adventures. You can check out the dry bag I recommend as well as the rest of my travel gear here.

3) WHAT TO WATCH

RACIONAIS MCs: From the Streets of Sao Paulo is a documentary about one of the most influential Brazilian hip hop groups of all time. It’s an incredible story of how they turned their street poetry into a powerful movement against anti-Blackness, poverty, and police violence in Brazil and beyond. I’ve watched it twice this year already. I just arrived in Brazil so i wanted to put you onto it this week. You can stream it here.

Did you Listen to Last Week’s Episode of The Maverick Show?

Last week I dropped Part 2 of my interview with Nusrat Roshni who talked about navigating her identity as a third culture kid. She reflects on the treatment of South Asians (particularly construction workers) in the UAE, as well as her observations going to the UK, Canada and the U.S.. Roshni then shares reflections from her travels through Sudan and Uzbekistan. She also talks about her relationship with Doctors without Borders, their work around the world today, especially in Palestine, and how you can support their work. Listen to the episode on your favorite platform here.
