1) EVENTS TO ATTEND

MOMMY & ME – PUERTO RICO TRIP. I interviewed Kameko Rooks from “Let’s Just Bring the Kids” on Episode 258. She is now organizing a small group trip for moms and their kids to Puerto Rico on August 2-5, 2024. You’ll be able to stroll by the colorful houses in the Old City of San Juan, try Mofongo at the city’s best restaurant, kick back on the beaches, and take a private catamaran to Icacos Island! Meko has lots of adventures planned for the kids including an indoor funhouse with ziplining, rock climbing, and an obstacle course. Meko’s trips are designed for both moms and kids to have fun, learn about the culture, make new friends, and create lasting memories together! See a detailed itinerary and reserve your spot here.

2) TRAVEL GEAR I USE

Mountain Hardware Compressible Down Jacket. This is an 800 fill goose-down jacket. So, it’s warm, but it’s also very stylish at the same time. Best of all, it’s ultralight (8.3 oz) and super compressible. It folds up and fits into its own pocket, so I can either pack it in my suitcase, carabine it on the outside of my bag, or use it as a small pillow on the plane! In this photo, I’m rocking it in the Bolivian Salt Flats. It comes in both mens and womens. Check out the Mountain Hardware Compressible Down Jacket and All my Travel Gear Here.

3) WHAT TO READ

Wander Woman: How to Reclaim Your Space, Find Your Voice, and Travel the World, Solo by Beth Santos. This book empowers women to see the world for themselves, by themselves, and provides lifelong tools to challenge preconceptions, try something new, and get out of your comfort zone. I interviewed Beth on episode Episode 146 and this book further fleshes out themes from our conversation about shifting the “safety” narrative for solo female travelers, and thoughtfully considers how we can travel more ethically and sustainably. It’s available anywhere books are sold or you can listen to the audio book with a free trial of Audible here.

Did you Listen to Last Week’s Episode of The Maverick Show?

Last week I interviewed Vanessa Fondeur, founder of the Latino World Travelers community and the Latino Travel Fest. Vanessa talks about her world travels from Egypt to the UAE to Antarctica. She then explains how she started taking her students all over the world, from Spain to China, and what impact that had on them. Vanessa and I also recount our hilarious night out together in Kentucky when Vanessa rode her first mechanical bull! Listen to the episode on your favorite platform here.
