1) DESTINATIONS

KIGALI, RWANDA is the cleanest and safest city I’ve ever visited. Local businesses close for half a day each month and the residents all come out to clean their city. Also, 61% of seats in the Rwandan National Parliament are held by women, which is the highest % of female MPs anywhere in the world. The coffee scene in Kigali is incredible, the art scene is FIRE, and the political history is really important to spend time reckoning with. The Kigali Genocide Memorial is a mass grave of 250,000 people, and the attached museum does a powerful job tracing the origins of the 1994 genocide back through a century of colonialism, and spotlighting the role of the Catholic Church and the French government in carrying it out.

Mount Kilimanjaro Summit

2) TRAVEL GEAR I USE

BOSE NOISE CANCELLING HEADPHONES 700. I’ve been using Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones for over 15 years, continually buying the latest version, and I have still not found anything better on the market. This is a core staple of my travel gear. I use them on the plane, in the workspace, and at the coffee shop. They’re an absolute digital nomad-essential. Check out Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones and all of my travel gear.

3) WHAT TO READ

THE VAGABOND’S WAY by Rolf Potts contains incredibly terse, substantive musings on wanderlust, discovery and the art of travel. Each entry is about two pages (or three minutes long in the audio book) and I often use them as morning meditations that inspire me to contemplate my travel on a deeper level. Rolf Potts has condensed and organized his reflections on decades of long-term travel into really powerful, poignant, thought-provoking doses of daily travel inspiration. This book reminds me why I started to travel and pushes me to think about its transformational impact in new and different ways. You can buy the book or listen to the audio book with a free trial of Audible here.

Did you Listen to Last Week’s Episode of The Maverick Show?

Last week I published Part 2 of my interview with Simone Vincenzi. He talks about why his podcast is his greatest business networking tool, and then opens up about his toughest moments as an entrepreneur. He explains how he made it through depression and anxiety, and what his greatest stress management tools are. We also have a wide ranging conversation about relationships, work-life balance, changing priorities across different seasons of life, and stability anchors while traveling.
