PALESTINE 36 was chosen as Palestine’s official submission for the “Best International Feature Film” category at the 98th Academy Awards in 2026.  It depicts the 1936–1939 Arab Revolt in British-Mandate Palestine as seen through the experiences of villagers and city-dwellers alike — especially Yusuf, torn between his rural home and the tumult of Jerusalem, as colonial powers and settler movements converge on his land and life. It brings to light a pivotal yet under-told moment in global history with cinematic urgency and relevance — showing the colonial roots of what is unfolding today, and why remembering that past matters for our present and future.
