On Black Womanhood and Migration in Lisbon is a new article by award-winning writer Christine Job who I interviewed on Ep 177 that offers a thoughtful, grounded exploration of how Black women experience migration beyond the Instagram-friendly fantasy narratives. It draws on interviews conducted during her artist residency in Lisbon to interrogate assumptions about Portugal as a utopia and to center the real, layered histories of Black Lusophone and African diasporic communities. This piece is a reflective invitation to rethink migration as a pathway to embodied wellness, dignity, and belonging, while honoring the complexity of Black identity, place, and movement in today’s world.
